Youths beat Catholic priest to coma in Anambra

A tragic incident took place yesterday as Youths of Obubo community in Anambra State attacked a Priest, Rev. Father Fidelis Ifeanyichukwu Ugozo of the St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Ugbenu, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, beating him to a state of coma.

The rampaging youths led by their leader, Gabriel Ikegbunam are said to be Idol worshipers.

According to Anambra Broadcasting Service, (ABS),the priest and some of his followers were carrying out a rosary procession around some of the villages when they were stopped by one of the youth leaders in the village, Gabriel Ikegbunam, who felt the clergy man and his followers were out to burn down their deity.

Mr. Ikegbunem insisted that they will not enter his village, and when they overpowered him, he started making contacts, calling some youths from the village to attack the priest and others who were mainly women and children.

The Catholic priest who was severely beaten and stabbed in the face was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Ebenebe after the attack but was later transferred to St. Joseph’s hospital, Adazi Ani by the Ebenebe Deanery Chaplain.

A former catechist at St. Raphael’s parish Ugbenu, Cletus Nwankwo, said Obubo village is known
for adulterous acts, adding that the youths suspected that the Rosary procession was aimed at destroying their deity shrine.

“They moved from Agueke village to Obiagu and decided to branch at Obubo before Ikegbunam blocked them and in the process, he called some of them and told them that Catholics are coming to burn their shrine. Soon the youths trooped out, wielding dangerous weapons such as axe, gun and machetes.

“They grabbed the Blessed Sacrament from our Parish Priest, hit it on the floor and used the Monstrance to hit our Parish priest on his hand before stabbing him on the face and other parts of the body” he said.

The Traditional ruler of Ugbenu town, Igwe Lawrence Egwuonu, while speaking to newsmen said his wife, Lolo Egwuonwu was also beaten by the youths, stating that Gabriel Ikegbunam, Israel Egwu and two others stormed his palace before the incident occurred to complain that their shrine and other sacred symbols were burnt by Christians.

“After investigation, I discovered that they were all liars. None of their shrines were burnt and I can defend it anywhere.

“It was Ikegbunam that incited others to attack the priest and other Christians.

“Their greatest mistake was touching the priest and destroying the Blessed Sacrament. It is a sacrilege and they will pay for it,” he said.

Two amongst the rampaging youths, Anthony Anigbogu and Humphrey Ekwenye, have been reprimanded and are currently in the custody of the State CID, Awka, while other accomplices are still at large.

Brazil's suspended President Dilma Rousseff was impeached today Wednesday August 31 following a 61-20 vote by the country’s senate.

Senators broke into protest, cheers and applause after the electronic voting, which went on for hours, was announced. Pro-impeachment senators burst into a rendering of the national anthem, some waving Brazilian flags, while allies of Rousseff stood stony face.

 

"I will not associate my name to this infamy," read a sign held up by one senator.

68-year-old Rousseff, the country's first female president, will be removed from office and replaced by Vice President Michel Temer, 75. He will be sworn in on Wednesday to serve out her term which extends through 2018.

The impeachment comes two days after Rousseff staged an impassioned defense of her actions on Monday and insisted she was innocent of any wrongdoing in an lengthy speech before the senate. Lawmakers had charged that she breached fiscal rules in an attempt to cover up the nation’s budget woes.

"I know I will be judged, but my conscience is clear. I did not commit a crime," Rousseff, told senators on Monday. "I can’t help but taste the bitterness of injustice."

Rousseff described the impeachment process, which has been going on for about a year, amounted to an illegal coup.  She said the move was aimed at protecting the interests of the country's economic elite and rolling back social programs that lifted millions of Brazilians from poverty during the last decade.

Recalling how she was tortured and imprisoned in the 1970s for belonging to a leftist guerrilla group, Rousseff urged senators to "vote against impeachment, vote for democracy. Do not accept a coup.

Her opponents, however, have hailed the chance to turn the page on a drawn-out political crisis, the country's worst recession and a sweeping corruption scandal at state oil company Petrobras.

About 50 leftist demonstrators gathered outside the presidential palace to show their support.

"We are protesting against the coup and fighting for democracy," said 61-year-old farmer Orlando Ribeiro.

In the center of the capital, extra security and the closing of avenues near the Senate caused massive traffic jams. Police said they were preparing for large protests later in the day.

Lawyers presenting closing arguments could not hold back their emotions as the clock wound down on a crisis that has paralyzed Brazilian politics for months. A lead lawyer for the case against Rousseff, Senator Janaina Paschoal, wept as she asked forgiveness for causing the president "suffering," but insisted it was the right thing to do.

"The Brazilian people must be aware that nothing illegal and illegitimate is being done here," she said.

Rousseff's counsel, veteran lawyer Jose Eduardo Cardozo, retorted that the charges were trumped up to punish the president's support for a huge corruption investigation that has snared many of Brazil's elite.

"This is a farce," he said in a speech during which his voice alternated between shouts and near whispers. We should ask her forgiveness if she is convicted," he added. "History will treat her fairly. History will absolve Dilma Rousseff if you convict her."

Cardozo said shhe would appeal the impeachment through the Supreme Court. Rousseff is the first Brazilian leader to be dismissed from office since 1992, when Fernando Collor de Mello resigned before a final vote in his impeachment trial for corruption.

Nnamdi Kanu life in serious threat.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has sounded red alert on Prince Nnamdi Kanu’s life, alleging that there is a calculated attempt by the Federal Government and the Department of State Services, DSS, to suffocate Kanu through the prison warders in charge of Kuje Prison.

An impoverished man in India carried his wife’s
body for 12km after the hospital where she died
allegedly failed to provide an ambulance to carry
the body back to their village.
Dana Majhi’s wife Amang, 42, died from
tuberculosis in the district hospital in
Bhawanipatna town in Orissa state.
Mr Majhi said his village was 60km (37 miles)
away and he couldn’t afford to hire a vehicle.
The hospital authorities have denied his charge.
“The woman was admitted to the hospital on
Tuesday and died the same night. Her husband
took away her body without informing any
hospital staff,” senior medical official B Brahma
said.
Mr Majhi, however, alleged that his wife died on
Tuesday night and that he began walking with her
body on Wednesday after the hospital staff kept
asking him to remove the body.
“I kept pleading with the hospital staff to provide
a vehicle to carry my wife’s body, but to no avail.
Since I am a poor man and could not hire a
private vehicle, I had no choice but to carry her
body on my shoulder,” he said.
Early on Wednesday, he said, he wrapped up the
body in cloth and began the long trek to his
village in Melghar for the last rites, accompanied
by his 12-year-old daughter Chaula.
He had walked for about 12km when some people
on the way intervened and an ambulance finally
arrived.
The cremation took place on Wednesday evening.

JANET: maybe I will be sending her out on an errand
whenever I
wanted you, or we will be going to your house
occasionally.

JANET: back from where?, so you are not in this

ME: oooh sorry I didn't tell you, I went out to see a
friend. You

For the next 6 weeks, things worked out fine, Mabel and
I would
hook up at my house on market days, it was always a
moment of
tutorials and sweet s*x. Meanwhile, janet will send
Mabel on an
errand For unnecessary things whenever she needs a
"quickee"
and we will opt for my house on none market days
whenever we
fill like having a nice romantic outing. I never stopped
getting
excited whenever I saw madam on her night gowns or
short skirts,

During 2nd week of april, about 3 weeks to jamb,
something
tragedic happened. We were at home on one saturday
evening
when a woman came into the house, I guess she was
the woman
who brought Mabel from ilorin. I was having a session
with janet
on the dining, Mabel was in the kitchen while madam
and the
woman was discussing in the living room. Madam
shouted
"yeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!" We came closer to them, madam
said "Mabel
mother is dead". I felt so sad, my eyes were soaked.
Janet was
crying. Gideon's face was dull. Mabel was sent for. The
news was
broke to her, she was crying helplessly like a poor
baby. I could
felt her pains. She had always told me how she loved
her mummy
so much. We consoled her and cheered her up. Due to
islamic
tradition, the mother would be buried on sunday
morning the next
day and mabel must travel that saturday. Janet and
madam
followed her to her room to pick few things. Madam
drove us to
ilorin pack. Mabel was still crying. We all encouraged
her.
She promised to be back in 2 weeks time. We watched
her entering
the bus with the woman. I couldn't hold my tears. I felt
so sorry for
her. I knew I will definitely miss her for that period. As
we were
heading back towards home, JANET was smiling in
silence. I was
like "what the hell is wrong with

this gurl. After mabel departure. Janet became the
cook. Her food wasn't
as delicious as that of Mabel, but it was manageable.
Janet was
something else, she would act strict and bossy
whenever madam
was around, she would insult me and shout at me to
the extent
that her mummy would beg me to ignore and disregard
her. But
after her mummy's departure to work and gideon's
departure to
school, the compound would become a s*x zone. We
would
dance, bleep, gist, eat and end it with tutorial sessions.
On many
occasions, we would be running around the house while
Unclad.
Throughout the first week, I missed Mabel so much that
I do call
her frequently. But in the second week, the passion for
Mabel
reduced drastically as janet was killing me with love
and
romance. I had to switch off my phone or placed it on
silence
whenever janet is around me.
Three weeks gone, Mabel hadn't returned and next
weekend is
jamb examination. Throughout the week, I was busy
preparing
janet for exam, its was then that I learnt her centre was
in Ibadan
and she would have to travel on friday morning and
lodge at her
uncle's residence in Ibadan. I talked to my friends who
are into
examinations "runs" to send answers to me during the
exam
which I planed to send to janet without madam's
knowledge
because I was very sure we didn't prepare very well for
the
exams.
On friday morning, madam told me to follow her in her
car, she
would drop me at her friend's store to get some items
for janet
before she leaves for ibadan. As we were driving in her
car, she
kept patting my laps at interval whenever we discussed
something funny. We had series of discussion about
Mabel
mother who died, about janet and jamb, about how I
see her
house,she told me I will be helping with cooking
pending janet's
arrival, she asked about my girlfriend of which I kept
smiling at
intervals and she kept patting my laps. She finally
dropped me at
a supermarket and had a private discussion with the
shop owner
and she left.
The super mart owner gave me tin of milk and milo,
soaps, and
some other gift items. I returned home on a bike, Janet
picked
out of the items I brought and she left for the garage
which I
followed her. After her took off, I returned home. I don't
know
where to put the remaining items I brought from the
supermart so
I took everything into my room waiting for madam to
arrive and
sort them out.
At about 6pm, janet called to inform me about her
successful
journey. She told me to go to the kitchen and see the
food
timetable for that night. "Chaiii, I don turn house boy for
here, see
wetin Mabel absence don cause". I placed a call to
Mabel for
guild lines on how to prepare porridge which was on the
time
table, mabel laughed at me to the extreme on the
phone. She
even flattered me saying "I pray make aunty janet
spend one
week so dat u go be the cook for a whole week". I
followed her
instructions and prepared the porridge. Gideon was so
spoilt that
he couldn't boil an ordinary water. His laziness made
the whole
cooking stressful.
I served myself and gideon because madam hadn't
arrived from
the bank. After eating dinner, I went to bed immediately
at
around 7:30pm because I was so tired. At few minutes
past 8pm,
I heard madam's voice in the living room. I overheard
her
chatting with gideon about dinner and the person who
cooked it.
I overheard her commenting on the food as she was
eating. She
asked of me from gideon and she was told I had gone
to bed. She
bid gideon "goodnight" and went into her room.
20minutes after madam entered her room. My phone
ranged. I
looked at the screen and it was madam calling. I picked
it.
ME: hello ma.
MADAM: the international cook
ME: **laughed** I only tried my little best ma
MADAM: you tried sha. But janet and Mabel will beat
you in
cooking any day anytime.***laughed**
ME: ***laughed back*** ok ma, I will improve tomorrow
morning
MADAM: ok dear. meanwhile, where are the bathing
soaps you
brought from the supermart, I couldn't find it in the
bathroom.
ME: its with me ma, I don't know where I will drop them
so I took
them to my room.
MADAM: ohhh God!!!. I need it urgently to take my bath
with it.
Please bring one into my room right away
ME: ***amazed***, ok ma, I'm coming right away.
She hanged up. I was wearing only boxers and singlet, I
took the
whole polythene bag containing the items and went
straight to madam's room.
